Cookie Policy

This page explains how the Umbraco Kent Meetup website uses cookies and similar technologies, and how you can control them. We try to keep cookie use to a minimum and to be honest about what we do and don't track.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They make sites work, work better, and let site owners understand how the site is being used. Some cookies are essential for the site to function; others (like analytics) are optional and only set if you give consent.

Cookies we use

We use a small number of cookies, split into two categories.

Essential cookies

These are required for the site to function and are set regardless of whether you accept the cookie banner. UK PECR allows essential cookies without explicit consent because the site can't work without them.

Name

Purpose

Duration

cookie_consent

Records your choice (accepted or declined) so we don't show the banner on every visit.

90 days (accepted) / 30 days (declined)

Analytics cookies (only set with consent)

If you click Accept cookies on the banner, we load Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site - which pages are popular, what devices people are on, where in the world the audience is. We use this to improve the site, not to identify individuals. IP addresses are anonymised before storage.

Google

Distinguishes unique visitors so the same person isn't counted twice.

_ga_*

We do not use any advertising, marketing, social-media, or cross-site tracking cookies.

Third-party content

The home page embeds a Google Map showing our usual venue. Google may set its own cookies if you interact with the map. That's governed by Google's privacy policy, not this one.

Your choices

  • Accept - clicking Accept cookies on the banner enables analytics for 90 days.

  • Decline - clicking Decline keeps analytics off for 30 days, after which the banner re-appears.

  • Withdraw consent later - clear the cookie_consent cookie in your browser's site settings; the banner will reappear on your next visit. Or use private/incognito mode for one-off visits.

  • Block all cookies - most browsers let you block cookies entirely or per-site. aboutcookies.org has guides for every major browser.

Form submissions

The contact form sends your name, email, subject and message by email to the organisers. This isn't done with cookies and isn't covered by your cookie choice - if you submit the form, you're providing those details directly. We use them only to reply to your message.

Changes to this policy

We'll update this page if we add new cookies or change how we use them. Substantive changes will be reflected by the date at the bottom of this page.
